Rockshox 2010 vs 2016

I need new forks for my Trance X. When I bought it in 2009 (maybe 2010) it came with a set of Rockshox Recon forks which were OK but a bit chunky and heavy.
I upgraded to a 2011 Reba RL (stonking offer at wiggle at the time) which were lighter and felt nicer.
I'd happily get another Reba fork, but money's tight and I'm considering going back to a Recon fork.
Given there's been a few years of product development, is the current Recon comparable to the 2011 Reba? Or should I save up for the Reba?

The Reba has changed from dual air spring to a much more reliable solo air spring. There's been a few minor mods to the dampers.
2016 forks have tapered steerer though so won't fit a 2009/2010 Trance.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350
