Im looking to add a bit of bling to a new bike build and ive been looking at the gold and other colored chains from kmc.

These colored ones look rather tasty http://www.wiggle.co.uk/kmc-x11-sl-dlc- ... 114-links/

Has anybody been using the above one and if so how does the coating last? Ive had a gold intrepid chain before which stopped gold for about 300 miles and then just went silver.

Its a silly price for a chain, but if it stops in that condition for a long time im tempted

No personal experience; I doubt I'd ever spend that amount on a chain even if I won the lottery.

They do have their 'diamond like coating' so I imagine they'd be fairly durable if your transmission is set up properly to eliminate chain rub.

Personally, if I had ~£70 burning a hole in my pocket for bike bits, I would spent ~£17 on a KMC X11-93 chain (PX is a fraction cheaper than Merlin right now) and then look at places like Superstar for some bling that will last longer than a chain.;)

I've got two of them. The coating has lasted thousands of miles.

I've got a KMC gold chain, mainly it's black. However on the rare occasion I get asked out socially, I take it off the bike give it a really good clean and it still comes up gold.
I then wear it when I go out.

Chains go black within 1 ride...not worth it, unless you want to hang it on the wall or clean it every day.

I have a gold one, they stay gold. I've no idea why they would turn black after one ride unless the rest of your drivetrain is filthy. I just wind it through a cloth every few rides and re-lube.
