For our holiday this year, the extended family will be based in Sandbanks, Dorset. Anyone know of any good road riding routes that might start and finish from there, and maybe also routes/places to avoid due to traffic etc?

As this'll be a staycation I might take 2 bikes (road, cx, or single speed cx) so mixed routes would also be of interest. Thanks

Just go over the ferry and then take your pick. When coming back across the ferry a good southerly breeze will let you get some good pace. The most rewarding part is hurtling past the queue for the ferry with road side signs "delay from this point 2hrs"

That does sound good! And looking at the website it's only a quid for a "pedal cycle"...

Staying in Bournemouth with work for next few days and from ferry usually go up hill and left to Swanage, across to Corfe castle and back over hill to ferry for a quick 25 miler. Also works well in reverse.

Just wish I had more time to go further but it makes a nice ride.

Check out routes to kimmeridge & lulworth cove via grange hill, Kingston Hill for the scott arms (Jamaican jerk shack in the beer garden), further refreshments at the square and compass. Dick Stain has opened a fish restaurant on sandbanks, perfect for the weekend property investors.

Yup - we go down to Purbeck a few times each year & there is some great riding that side of the ferry. Check out the Jurassic Beast sportive route as a starting point (takes in Corfe, Swanage, Lulworth, Grange hill / whiteways etc in Purbeck at the southern end of the full route). If you get a good day, the views are brilliant too.
