So Guy describes a 66 degree head tube angle as steep by modern standards. Anybody else think this is (with the exception of DH bikes) slack? Or I have I missed something.

66 to me is typical Enduro, you do get some oddities though like the Stanton Slackline which is a short travel HT with a fairly slack HA (67.5 from memory) for that type of bike.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

head angle does not dictate category, at least for me
Kona use 66.5 HA (process 153) if I am correct, but the 27,5 pike runs 42mm rake that makes the bike stable at speed without kicking the front wheel to much out,

Stability is a combination of HA, wheel size R and fork rake, you can get the same wheel trail with different HA and fork rake combinations

Enduro bikes are generally 65-66 degrees now so it's about right.
