Problem removing FSA crank
I'm hoping someone can advise me please.
I have a bit of a creaking from, I suspect, the bottom bracket of my bike. I would like to remove the crank and BB and lubricate them and re-assemble. My problem is I cannot for the life of me get the non-drive side crank off. The photo below shows the crank in question. The cranks are FSA Omega and the socket in the centre is 8mm. However, it will not turn more than about 1/16th of a turn before binding. Am I right in thinking the round component marked with the arrows and the FSA logo is a locking nut/ring and, if so, is there a special tool to remove it? I should add, I work on my bikes all the time, regularly stripping them down and rebuilding them, although this is the first time I have tried to remove the BB on this particular bike. I have the correct tools and am generally quite proficient technically but I have not come across this before. It is the first time I have worked on this BB, all my other bikes are SRAM/Shimano BBs.
Thanks for any pointers.
Cheers

It's a self-extracting crank bolt - simply unscrew the 8mm Allen screw, it'll probably take more leverage than a regular Allen key as it's been tightened to 40Nm.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

Thanks for the prompt reply, I will persevere. I've removed self extracting cranks before but this is ridiculously tight, so tight that I thought the threads were picking up. Rule 5 and a bigger Allen Key it is then.

Same fitting as the FSA crank I removed lat week, a longer allen key and some MTFU.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

Had the exact same problem removing my old FSA crank - in the end I had to take it to a bike shop who had a breaker bar on hand - no way I was getting it off at home, needed a lot of force!!0
