Hello all, as per title - what's the weather like in Bormio in mid September? I have a 'spare' weeks holiday and I'm toying with going over for a few days, providing I can get a pass-out.....

It's mountainous, it'll throw everything at you.Advocate of disc brakes.0

Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I did it in may and it was closed to traffic due to avalanche risk...bikes can sneak through though.0

I went last year, about the same time. Weather was fine at relative low altitude but be warned that up top of Stelvio and Mortirollo you'll need layers and long fingered gloves especially when descending. Can't recommend the place enough though superb riding.0

Thanks to all. VeloHunter, that's just what I wanted to hear, ta!"It must be true, it's on the internet" - Winston Churchill0

Got back from there a couple of weeks ago, forecast had been pretty bad but weather was 35 degrees most of the time and the daily forecast storms didn't materialise. One day of four it rained quite heavily but didn't stop us riding.
Even at 35 degrees in the valley it was bloody cold at the top of the Stelvio and the Gavia (both still had lots of snow up there).
As has been said, it's the mountains so always carry at least arm warmers and a windproof.0 -

In fact I had winter gloves and the descent of a snowy Stelvio Pass was still an utter nightmare on account of finger numbness. Recommend a couple of pairs of latex gloves under normal winter gloves. They're easy to tuck away on the way up.0
