Hi, I'm looking to upgrade from my first road bike (2015 Allez Sport) and have my choices down to these 3. They are all around £1200-£1300 which is within my budget, and I'm looking for something fast and fun, but comfy('ish) for an old man (47) :) I'm also using Cyclescheme.

Giant TCR Advanced 2

I'll be test riding the Trek and Giant soon, but views and opinions from more experienced riders would be very welcome.

I have an Emonda SL8 and absolutely love it. Can't comment on the other 2, but the Trek fits me like a glove and I've done everything from chaingangs to 140 milers without an issue.

4,000 miles now, hopefully many more to come.

  • Hmm..that SL8 looks very nice! Trek SL's generally seem to get good reviews. Maybe I should save a bit more and get an SL5/SL6 instead.

By the lack of other feedback, it looks like I just need to get out there are try a few out and come to my own conclusions. Thanks.

You need to ride the ones you can, personally I like the look of the Giant best.
All are standard mamil colours of black, red and white so you'll have no problem getting kit to match !

    so true!

My Allez is in 'Monster Green', so wanted something completely different.

Hired a Giant TCR Advanced 2 for a few days in the Alps. Other than the brakes being terrible in the wet (suspect this is down to the pads) the bike felt really good.

Standard Shimano 5800 105 calipers, could be the pads where the problem, a change to SwissStop FlashPro BXP blue should solve that problem.
