steerer tube and top cap spacer?

just go bike back from a service. guy said somthing about there being a space between the topcap and bolt the the handlebar stem it touches? see picture. eWyVpWz

    Was the odd spacer below the stem already there?

    It sounds like you didn't have enough spacers so the top cap was contacting the steerer and not preloading the headset properly and he's added that odd one.

    Undo the bolt and remove the topcap and take a photo showing the steerer to stem relationship, with the stem done up the top cap doesn't took anything and can be removed.
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    no, no spacer in there, will take a pic bear with me. mind you its been like this for more than 6 years or so
