just go bike back from a service. guy said somthing about there being a space between the topcap and bolt the the handlebar stem it touches? see picture.
It sounds like you didn't have enough spacers so the top cap was contacting the steerer and not preloading the headset properly and he's added that odd one.
Undo the bolt and remove the topcap and take a photo showing the steerer to stem relationship, with the stem done up the top cap doesn't took anything and can be removed.
