I am looking at buying a GT Verb Elite (£999) on our (hopefully) soon to be started Cycle Scheme. I am wondering if if the bottom bracket allows for upgrading. The review below mentions square taper and I want to strip out the crank and replace it with a Shimano Zee setup

Can I do that ?

I think so, with screw in square taper BB any Shimano HT2 crankset with screw in BB will fit the BB shell just fine, the only issue is clearance to the chainstay where it passes over the BB area, I think it will be OK based on the fact that the higher trim level bikes appear to use just that http://www.gtbicycles.com/gbr_en/2016/b ... erb-expert

For a trail bike though I'd be looking at something a bit lighter than Zee, SLX for example.

Thanks. From checking the geometry info on GT's website those two different bikes appear to be the exact same frame. Certainly have the exact same dimensions. Only the components differ
