I bought a set of wheels from Amazon because they were nearly 50% off from what all the other retailers sell them at (Campagnolo Scirocco Shimano CX 35 wheels) (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Campagnolo-Scirocco-CX-35-Clincher/dp/B00CJQ1EBW)

There were bought from the Amazon warehouse (were the returned items are sent back to and Amazon can't sell them as new so they sell them discounted - they had a sale on so I only paid £95 Described as - Used like new) They turned up brand new however the item page has the ratings at 1/5 stars (4.5/5 on wiggle) because it seems Amazon has a habit of sending the campy freehub version and not the Shimano

The wheels turned up and there is the return slip from the original buyer who returned them saying it's the wrong hub however there is also an adapter in the box "Adapter for 9s/10s SRAM/ Shimano sprokets"

Can someone tell me if it is a Campagnolo Freehub and if you can actually use a Shimano cassette on a Campagnolo freehub with the adapter (I'm puzzled only because several people have returned it) Am I too assume that the people who returned the wheels use 11speed cassettes?

I'm using a 10 speed cassette (Shimano Tiagra 11-28), will this work on these wheels with the adapter? http://imgur.com/a/3rupw

Here is a bunch of pictures of the freehub and the adapter http://imgur.com/a/7B3h6

So basically:

Is this a Campagnolo freehub?
Will it work with my 10 speed Shimano cassette?
It will only need a new hub if I was to switch to 11 speed SRAM/Shimano?

Thanks :)

The news so far.. if the hub is Campag then there is no adapter I know of that converts it to take a Shimano cassette. You'l have to get a Campag freehub and swap... more bother .. more of your time.. you might need a few more tools to do the job. Everyone says its easy to swap hubs... I never believe the internet.. I reckon u have wasted your money in trying to save a few quid for . well basically pretty basic wheels in the first place.
    Sorry.

    That is a Shimano freehub.

If you have a Shimano cassette you could ...er... see if it fits!

Thanks for the reply. Amazon will probably refund about 25% bring the price of the wheels to about £73 which seems ok for a pair of wheels priced at £180 at wiggle - I was going to get the Zondas but it seems a good price. I'm to heavy and tight too buy carbons. And the wheels are a lot lighter than the mavic cxp-22 set that came with the bike. What would you recommend?

I have got the tools for the job but I'll probably get my LBS to do it if it isn't an easy job. I guess I could use my old freehub?

As for the adapter, is it for use with an 11 speed Shimano hub? So the wheels are wrong for the description but they've put a Shimano adapter in the box?

I don't want to take my cassette of until I have another set of wheels. I'm baffled why they were returned with the original buyer saying that it is a campy hub and not a shimano. And it seems he's not the the only one from the ratings.
  • With Shimano all the ridges stick out the same distance from the hub but there are 8 wide and one narrow.

    Shimano

With Campagnolo there are 8 ridges in 4 pairs. 7 of the ridges are about 5mm high and one is about 2.5mm.

    Campag

Shorter one is the upper on the righthand side.

    Sorry.

    Wrong - ish.

If it's a Campy hub and you want to run Shimano, buy a Campy splined Shimano spaced cassette. And vice versa.

Cassettes are around £35 and work perfectly. I'm using one on Dirk with no issues.

    Hope that helps.

That's a Shimano 11 speed freehub. If you are running Shimano/Sram 9 or 10 speed cassettes then you need to put the adapter(spacer) on the freehub before you put the cassette on.
