bottom bracket noise

almost embarrassed to ask this....... have just stripped my bike and removed the chain to be able to clean the sprockets. When i rotate the pedals there is no grinding, it feels smooth, there is no lateral give but it does make a noise which could be bearings rubbing against something. Is this normal? When you spin a wheel there is no noise! Just wondering if maybe the BB has got some water in or something?

    Hard to say from your description, but a healthy BB should be both smooth and silent.

    Wht type of BB is it?

    Is the noise definitely from the BB (is it there with no chain i.e. When just the cranks / BB isolated?)

    How many miles on the bearings? Its generally pretty chep to just replace the bearings / Hollowtech BB etc, unless its high end stuff.
