9 speed chain on a 10 speed chainset?
Will a 9 speed chain work with a 10 speed chainset? The cassette is 9 speed, the chain is 9 speed, so if I use 10 speed chain-rings/chainset up front, will it work ok?
Context. I have a Whyte Dorset with one of those very sh**y FSA MegaExo BB4000 bottom brackets. They're £30 and last 3 months. Only FSA make a BB that fits the FSA chainset. It's a 9 speed setup. So to convert to Shimano I need to change the chainset as well as the BB. Hence; will a 10 speed Tiagra (£60) chainset and a Tiagra (£10) bottom bracket work with the 9 speed chain & cassette.
Any help appreciated, cheers.
