Off road Arlesey train station to Stevenage

I know there is a commuting section but thought I'd try here. Does anyone know an off road route to get from Arlesey train station to Stevenage? I'm planning on cycling to work and want to avoid roads as much as possible if I can.
The long term aim is to cycle down from Sandy to Stevenage so if anyone knows an off road route for that or large parts of it, that would also be appreciated.
I know there was a group here that used to ride around the Hitchin area on a Sunday morning (I joined in once about 18 months ago). I'm hoping those guys might have some local knowledge. I'll be getting a 1:25k OS map soon I suspect to plot a couple of routes or so as well as exploring the area a bit myself anyway.
