Ok, so leaving aside the SuperSix for all my road stuff, I'm looking for one more bike that does everything else such as very light touring, trails, canal paths, wet/winter work etc.

Budget: £500/£1000 - not fussed on used/new
Weight: Couldn't care less
Frame material: Couldn't care less

Gruppo: 1x? Maybe? Ideally hydro disc too.
Lots of clearance
Mudguard mounts
Fun

That's it! Any suggestions? The new Boardman looks brilliant.

Sounds like you need/want an MTB to me.

You're not wrong, but with a 30km roadie commute it has to be CX at best I'm afraid :-/ when I get another MTB it'll be a proper enduro machine.

I had huge amounts of fun yesterday on my CX bike off road and took two KOM's despite mere 33c tyres. Felt like an 80's rigid fork MTB.

Budget wise you (generally) won't get hydraulics and 1x easily for that budget. Perversely 1x tends to be more expensive than 2x.

But there is one that fits the bill..... http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBPXLDNRIV ... -road-bike

I ride a caadx as my second bike. Not the lightest but it runs discs, full guards and conti 4s in 28's through winter, I've the set of wheels it came with with cx tires on it for kid trail duties. It's a nice, versatile bike

personally id get a full on road bike - then get your enduro - best of both worlds

the boardman looks a bargain, 15% off at the moment plus addition BC discount makes it £765 at the moment
  • The Boardman looks like a no-brainer based on your requirements, especially as it's on sale just now.

Cheers for the input team, some cracking suggestions there. The cross race looks brilliant especially. I also like the CAADX, especially as I'm already on a Cannondale. Lots to think about!

Cheers - for the avoidance of doubt I'm already on a full road bike, and the majority of the work this will do will also be road (winter training and group riding). It just needs to be a little more versatile also.

    N+1+1 is the enduro :-)

Norco search? Pinnacle? Giant defy disc? Whyte? Quite a few options.
