Stiff inner soles?

I bought some trainery things to wear with my toe-clip/strap pedals. They'll only be worn rarely so it's not worth getting superior shoes. I find that they are too soft I wonder if there is such a thing as a stiff insole you can put inside to make them a bit more "efficient"... perhaps something orthopaedic?

Cant think that any insert would want to give you a stiff footbed. Not great for walking ? Just get on with it I think.0

You could try something like a Specialized BG footbed. I wear them in my flat MTB trainers and they definitely help (a little). However bearing in mind there £25 you'd be better spending a little more on some clip in shoes if pedaling efficiency bothers you.0

They won't really help. You should invest in proper shoes and pedals.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0

Is the way forward if it's going to get sorted I reckon. Have cut some stiff foamboard stuff which I intend to try later, although I think it's a tad too deep.
Thing is, I went out for a ride yesterday (this an infrequently used bike you understand hence don't want to go mad with £££) and the outer edge of the pedal was digging into my foot below the little toe, so my feet are wider than the pedal. It might be that different pedals would be better (not sure which).Андрю

I doubt any inserts will really enhance the overall stiffness. To make it work you would probably have to glue them in place.0
