Shimano Bottom Bracket Failure

This is my first post here, so hopefully the above image works. The bottom bracket bearing part has completely snapped away from the threaded part, and after less than 100 road miles. Evans are replacing, but I'm worried about frame damage, or if the bike has taken a knock before I purchased. This must be quite a rare fault for a shimano part?

    I can't see it either, but if it's as you describe, then I've never heard of that happening before. I'd also be curious to know how Evans are going to remove the remains if the outer portion has broken off leaving the threaded part in the BB shell...
