Hi all,

I've been running Shimano SPDs on my R055 shoes for a few years now but recently got bought a set up Time Espresso 2's for my birthday so making the change to big boy roadie pedals!

I'm trying to get the cleats on the shoe, which has 3 hole and 2 hole compatibility, but when I took my SPD cleat off there is only fittings for the SPD in the sole - I'm not sure if I got fittings for 3 hole with the shoe as I bought them so long ago.

I have all the screws and washers for the new cleats with the pedals but nothing to screw them into!

Does anyone know if you get the 3 hole screw fitting with the R055s, or where I can buy them from?

Thanks!

You cannot fit 3 bolt cleats on a shoe with 2 holes, you need to buy new ones....
  • No it has three holes, the shoes I have are these:

But in the sole there is only one of these:

The three holes don't have a thread to screw the cleat bolts into.

Can you be clear on which shoes you have. You first post mentioned R055 and your reply mentioned R088.
  • R088s - I don't know where R055 came from.

They're pretty popular so I assume one of you guys will have them with Look cleats attached and can offer some help!

So there are holes in the sole, but they do not have thread inserts - is that what you are saying?
  • Yes - that's exactly what i'm trying - and failing fantastically - to say!

I have the inserts for the SPDs with 2 holes, but not for the 3 holes. Wondered if they came in the box with the shoes and if you can buy them separately.

Sounds more like a manufacturing error - I would have thought the thread inserts should have been fitted at the factory. If the shoes have been worn for sometime it may be too late to pursue any warranty claim now...

The photo of the sole of the 2015 R088 shoes on the CRC website appears to show threaded holes. Says you need to buy the adapter plates to fit 2 hole cleats...

    What vintage are your shoes??
  • They were bought in 2014, i've taken them to Evans Cycles this afternoon and the workshop chap said he'd never seen a pair that didn't have the three hole plate already in - could be a manufacturing error?

    Maybe screw the adapter off?
