Veloce 10 speed chain and cassette replacement

I want to replace the chain and cassette, I notice it's recommended to use a campy chain tool but is this essential as it's £86?
Can I use the cheap one I have which I've used for my touring bike? The last time it needed changing I bought a KMC chain for a campy chain but that didn't work so I took it to the bike shop to get it done but I'd like to do it myself. I could get a KMC joining link but would that work well.
Regards
Bruce

Shimano / KMC user here, but as I understand it, the Campag chain tool is only required if you're joining a Camapg chain with their joining rivet which needs the ends peening after insertion.
I'd get a KMC chain and you can shorten it with any decent 10 speed chain tool (I have a Park tool mini chain brute) then join it with the Missing Link it comes with.0 -
to bike shop do they replace the chain using the campy chain tool?0

Leave the tool in the shop and buy a KMC, Connex or SRAM chain with quicklink.0
