I'm in need of new chains and was just wondering what chains are recommended. I'm using Ultegra chains on both bikes at the moment, a Look with Ultegra/Dura Ace mix and a Time with Dura Ace. It would be interesting to know what's been used.

    The actual differences between expensive chains and cheap chains mostly relate to things like coating or surface finish. Consequently, just buy the cheapest. I normally buy Tiagra (for 10sp) and join with a KMC link. Don't be thinking a more expensive chain will be better...

    I tend to stick with KMC x10/11.93 range, they seem pretty durable and not much of a weight penalty;

    Sram Red22 currently available at £25 at most online retailers.

    More expensive than the others, no better than the others, and still don't come with a quick link, essentially making it fit and remain in place. Now, you can use your own quick link but...............

    Because it's twice the price of Ultegra for little / no performance benefit?
