Changing from Triple to compact - keep shifter

As the title suggests, I am changing my triple 59/39/30 10sp Ultegra set up to 50/34. I'll be changing the front mech as well but can I keep the old Ultegra triple shifter? I am guessing the limit screws on the mech will stop me dumping the chain into the frame if I forget and make the third shift, but happy to be corrected. Thanks for any advice

    Yes, you can usually adjust-out the third click using the limit screws. I've done this a couple of times on different bikes...

    yes, it will be fine. could also keep the front mech (no need to replace)
