Hi, whilst trying to resolve a latteral movement issue on my rear wheel I some how managed to completely remove the rear axle from the wheel. The cassette is still attached to the free hub and axle. And I'm none too sure how to put it all back together. I can see three small pin like bits on the edge of the free hub which can come loose. I assume these have to fit into the searated part of the wheel but I am unsure how to do this.

Any help with this issue would be hugely welcomed thank you.

If you don't know what you have done to get this far take it to the LBS before you do anything really dangerous.

I unscrewed the large plastic bolt on the opposite side to the drive train as previously screwing it in had relived the movement issue. Unfortunantely I unscrewed a little too far and due to the angle I was holding the wheel the weight of casette pulled the axle through.

Get yourself a cable tie. Loop it around the splines of the free hub but don't insert the male end into the female end. Hold it tight to close the splines and re-insert the axle. Pull the cable tie free and push the free hub home.

The cable tie isn't needed IME. You can just rotate the cassette gently in the direction away from the engagement of pawls (the little flappy paddle, pin like things you referred to) - ie anticlockwise looking at the wheel - as you push the freehub body into the axle. The pawls get dragged into the open position as you turn and the freehub just pops into place. Certainly works perfectly for Campag and takes no time to do.
