Hi!

I'm finally ready to "grow out" of my Trek FX 7.3 Hybrid and make the move to a road bike.
I started doing some research but I'm mostly clueless about bikes. I only ride for recreational and weight loss purposes so I don't need the top of the line. For me (I think) comfort is more important than performance - the longer I can go without my back hurting the better. My budget is $1000-1500.
Bikes I've looked at and test driven so far:
1. Fuji Roubaix 2.0 LE
2. Cannondale CAAD12 105

They both seem to have similar components, though for some reason one is getting 2/5 stars review on a this site and the latter 5/5. Also a $500 price difference.
Anyhow, I was looking to get some advice on which one to get, or possibly if there are other models to consider that would be great as well.
The other piece of information I'm trying to figure out is size. I'm 5 10", and I've been advised to get a size 56, but I'm questioning that advice. My inseam is about 30.5 assuming I've measured correctly.

Thanks in advance!!

Danny

    Danny,

as someone who also has a back problem and having just been through the process of finding and buying a more comfortable bike, I offer the following inexpert thoughts:

    1. The geometry/shape of the frame is a major determinant of your riding position, posture and back comfort. You need to find a solution that doesn't have too big a differential between the height of the saddle and the bars.
    2. A frame and forks that damp out the bumps and vibration are essential for comfort.
    3. Try before you buy.
    4. Have a proper bike fitting.

During my prolonged search I found the following to be at the comfortable end of the spectrum: Cannondale Synapse; Trek Domane; and Specialised Roubaix. Eventually I bought the Cannondale Synapse Carbon 105, which in the USA might just be within your budget.

The main point for you is get the correct size.
I'd suggest the caad but If you get the correct size the difference is made by the one that attracts you most.
