    No it's not.

    Nationality is birth. You're confusing it with residence and domicile.

    He's Belgian.

    That's like saying my dad is a kiwi because he was born there in 1953 and moved back to the UK the same year - clearly stupid.

    (and his passport says british)

    What does his heart say though? I'm not speaking for you and your father, but I'm not going to call someone I don't know as to their nationality. All a tad personal.

    But going on the cold hard documented facts, as much as you want to embrace him and his success and make him "one of yours" he's Belgian.

    Sorry.

    Why is it trolling - it's pointing out facts.

    Froome on the other hand is British in the same way that Zola Budd and Greg Rusedski are. Oh and Lennox.

    British rounders? Surely Shone Mishtake ..... Just looks like a couple of colored circles to me.

    I'd imagine that all those people who were born in different countries to British parents who were serving overseas in the forces would be a little bothered to know that their nationality has changed because of Matthew's behest.

    While we're at it lets deport David Millar back to Malta, bloody immigrants coming here and being good at something keeping average people from doing it. :roll:

    He's trolling of course, but it's worth pointing out that there is a rather darker side to what he is arguing. He's denying naturalisation to *anyone* born overseas. So regardless of how long, say, my father lived, worked, taught and paid taxes in this country he will always be a second class citizen in the poster's eyes. The friend I grew up with who came here as a refugee at the age of 8 when many of his family were killed in war? Nope, he can't call this country home. No matter that the only language he speaks is English - and with a local accent, no less.

    Lennox Lewis - the chap born in London, spent the first 12 years of life in London - is that who you mean?

    Incidentally an english born world cup winner who was born after 1966:

    Back on topic - in terms of the classics this year - Sky as a team have done very well - I would not be surprised if they were the best performing team overall - possibly apart from Tinkoff (Sagan mainly).

    Ultimately team sky are the best team in the world. Easily the best stage race team and feature all year round.

    They set the standard others try to match.

    Unfortunately.

    Oh - the drama. The tears. The inferred racism. May I be the first to call Godwins?

    You're missing the absolute point - don't confuse nationality with residence, citizenship or domicile (admittedly the latter two are tricky).

    Don't mix emotions with the law - emotionally someone may live somewhere for 45 years, pay their taxes, have their children, marry a local girl, speak the language, assimilate, do all the stuff that you say above but still their heart is in their native country and when asked what nationality he is will give that of his birth - this is my father.

    When asked my nationality I give British as my second answer and I only use my British passport for work because I have to.

    Your friend above - next time you see him ask him what he, in a perfect world would prefer - you've picked an emotive silly example. A refugee is different from an economic migrant and from someone who is voting "in" and is the first to denigrate Nigel and his band of white collar BNP I say let 'me in and good luck to them

    Wiggins has dual nationality, but he was born in Belgium. By the letter of the law he is Belgian.

    Unless they are registered as British Citizens at the local Embassey then yes, they take the nationality of the country they are born in. It's the law again. Sorry.

    Dopey Millar? No great loss really.

    i don't need to ask him , as we've spoken about it many times. He's is a naturalised Brit, has a UK passport, sees himself as British and sees Britain as his home country. In spite of filth like you trying to dance around made up legal arguments.

    Seems the only person confused here is you. This is the Government's guide to whether you qualify for British Nationality. Citizenship is just one of several ways https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/322367/GUIDE_NS_-_June_2014-update.pdf

    Would you like to respond with a link to the law by whose letter he is Belgian?

    To take your argument to the extreme, if someone is born on a cruise liner in international waters they would be without nationality.

    Wiggins has dual nationality, but he was born in Belgium. By the letter of the law he is Belgian.
    By the letter of actual Belgian law (not your imaginary laws) he isn't:

    A person born in Belgium (to non-Belgian parents) is a Belgian citizen if that person:

    holds no other nationality at the time of birth (i.e., is stateless) OR;

    loses any other nationality before turning 28 OR;

    has a parent who was born in Belgium and who has lived in Belgium for at least five years during the last 10 years OR;

    is adopted (while under 18) by a parent holding another nationality who was born in Belgium and who has had their main place of residence in Belgium for five years during the 10-year period before the adoption takes effect.

    has two parents or adoptive parents born abroad who submitted a declaration before that person's twelfth birthday requesting that the person be granted Belgian nationality. Belgium must have been the parents' main place of residence during the 10 years preceding the declaration, and the person must have lived in Belgium since birth.

    Effectively this means that:
    the children of long-resident immigrants can acquire Belgian citizenship
    the grandchildren of immigrants to Belgium are normally Belgian by birth

    So being knighted by the Queen, winning gold for GB at the Olympics and still living in Britain when he could easily be a tax exile?
