Hi all, any tips on how to set up the high and low speed compression on this shock? The Marzocchi website isn't much help and I don't have any experience with them. Does anybody have any base / recommended settings?
As a side note, the codeine is just the most amazing bike
Thanks
Rob

Have a read of this guide. I know it's a different brand of shock but the principles are exactly the same and it's a really good, step by step guide.

Thanks Rockmonkey I'll have a look at that.
Crazy, you need to get a budget together, you won't regret it0 -

Relaxitscool - how is the codiene treating you? I'm looking at getting a frame and building it up but have found it very hard to find any reviews out there.
Cheers0 -
Id be interested too about how the codeine is? Little user review in pinkbike, but doesnt seem to be much around.0

Have got 3 mates with Codeines, 1 29er, 2 650b's.
The 29er is really nice and stable, very comfortable and eats up rough stuff, my mate tends to steamroll through things on his rather than pick a line, the Pike/Monarch combo is very plush and forgiving. The 650 one is a bit more lively and feels very slack when riding it, makes climbing hard work. I ride a Banshee Spitfire in the slackest setting and the 650 Codeine feels like a chopper compared to it. The 650 is very fast though. The 2 guys with the 650's have dramatically improved results in local enduros since buying. I prefer my Spitfire but it is a laugh riding the Codeines.0 -
Cheers for that Twelly, been a nightmare trying to find any reviews out there, one was created on pinkbike a couple of days ago but as the lad has just got the bike it's only really an overview. How do your mates find the sizing, I'm bang on 6ft so right in between the medium and large according to on ones sizing guide and although I live in Yorkshire it's a 200 mile round trip to their store in Sheffield.0

Im 6ft3 and my Banshee is an XL with. 640mm TT. I found the medium 29er too short (mate who owns it is probably 5ft11) both the 650 mates are 6ft+ and have large sizes, I was fine on the large 650 but its not as long as my Banshee0

Hi and sorry for the late reply. The Codeine is simply awesome. I have to disagree with the climbing ability, it climbs better than any bike I've had, and descends far far better.
As proof, I've gone faster uphill than I did on my Cannondale Flash 29. Downhill, the bike just soaks anything up and pops between jumps and berms.
I really couldn't be happier with it, its the best bike I've ever owned / ridden.0 -
Re sizing, I'm 5'11, with a 35mm stem the bike feels just nice, with a 125mm dropper post I have about 1" of the non dropper section exposed above the seat tube.0

Its not a bad climber but its not going to win XC races. The fork set up my mates run doesnt help the geometry when climbing. The Marzocchi fork doesnt seem to have the same support as a Pike when you run it on the squishy side (30%+ sag) so they tend to run it a bit firmer which props the front end up. Still very plush off the top so you can get away with a firm fork. Makes it feel very nippy on the downs. If you run a bit more sag to keep the front sitting lower it would probably help with getting weight over the front uphill.0 -

Yeah I see where your coming from, I've never run more than 25% sag and its still very plush. I've never had a problem with the front wondering but then I tend to sit and spin uphill (perched on the nose of my saddle on particularly steep climbs.) The oval chain ring I use also helps I guess, smooths the pedaling out a treat on very steep climbs.
Its certainly not a XC whippet but as an all round bike I think it demolishes anything I've ridden before, and as my wife will testify to, that's a few bikes0 -
Hi I've just ordered codine frame 27.5 with the marzocchi 053 shock, just wondering if anyone managed to find a good base setup for the shock?0
-
I started with all the adjustment halfway, set the sag then rebound, then low speed to dial out to much pedal bob without it being wooden, then adjusted the high speed so it felt soft on landings. Seems to work ok, but I'm no expert. I had to make numerous runs on a local downhill track to get it feeling ok.

Can't help with shock setup as I'm still working on it myself but just wanted to say I'm absolutely loving the codeine 650b even without optimal setup.
I'm coming from a 26er giant anthem which is a capable bike but the codeine blows it away in everything, I even prefer it on the climbs.0
