Do you have to swap your number onto your waterproof in a sportive?

Sorry if it's a silly question but I want to do the "right thing".
The velothon rules say you must always show your number on your back. It uses safety pins and there's only one number. If it rains and I put my waterproof layer over top do I need to stop and swap the number? Sounds like a ridiculous thing to do to be honest and I probably won't. Especially as its forecast sun/rain I may swap a few times. I'm also not happy putting pins in my new waterproof (jersey not so bad as its material rather than the plasticy material of a waterproof).
Thanks

I don't think anyone bothers, ever. As long as you've got the number on bike/helmet/wherever they can id you, and no-one's going to stop you cos they can't see your number.0

Your bike number with the timing chip is all that matters. Enjoy, it's going to be a good ride.0
