Hi,

This may be a stupid question where the answer may be you cant, but I thought I would ask anyway.

I had a Retul Bike fit done on my current bike and have been searching for a new one for a while. To quell the n+1 beast within me I decided to buy a frame with near as damn it Stack and Reach and swap over componentry. Before I do this is are there specifics things I should measure (e.g. Centre of BB to top of seat post) to ensure my riding position is comparable?

Thanks

Just take measurements from fixed points, like the hubs or BB.

I suppose it's couple of things that concern me - the stack & Reach on the frames are different, I'm possibly being stupid, however, I'm thinking that I would have to take measurements from multiple points to make sure hoods are in a comparable position, like hub to top of hoods, point of seat to hoods etc. Is this what you're referring to?

I'd never use that sort of language.

Measure the important relative dims, like the drop from the saddle to the bars, centre of bb to top of saddle etc. However, it's more than likely that you won't be able to get the same on another frame, - that's where the bike fit comes in. A bike fit will give you the best fit for that frameset, the fitter will work within parameters to get that best fit.
It might be worth having a word with whoever done your Retul fit, - my experience has been that a refit on another bike was carried out FOC, or a very nominal price. If you've managed to get it pretty close, it's likely to be just a case of fine tuning.

    Yes, that's what I mean.

Thanks both, I appreciate the responses. I'm off to the garage with a measuring tape, note pad and a bottle of wine...

MY bike fit is the same on 3 bikes.
    I measured .....
Saddle height from centre of pedal crank .
    Saddle setback from BB
    Reach to ctr of bars
reach to hoods to take into account different potential reach on the bars
Drop from saddle to hoods by measuring from ground up and noting the difference.

    Follow this http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-hel ... -section-2

Fill out chart and keep it for future builds etc as a reference.

Sorry to chip in so late. I too went through a Retul fit some time ago and a very useful part of the whole exercise was being given a printout at the end which showed all the measurements taken by the system and what they actually mean. The necessary changes to the bike were made in the store but, when I bought a new one, the first thing that I did was dig out the chart from the Retul fit and transfer the important measurements over to the new bike. Worked a treat with a couple of tweaks to take account of the slightly different geometry (and preferred positon) between the two. If you didn't get given a print out, it might be worth calling the shop as they should still have your data in the system.

One extra tool that I found really useful in the transfer exercise was a Dry Wall T Square which made setting the same saddle position relative to the crank a doddle but I appreciate that not everybody has got one of those handy (that said, you can pick one up for less than £20).
