Giant Defy 1 2013 - Want 4iiii Precision Power Meter

The bike details are here:
https://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bi ... ifications

It has a Shimano FC-R563/R565 crank set (172.5 length).

This isn't listed in the options for the power meter:
http://4iiii.com/product/precision/

So should I opt for the 'Ride Ready' option, and if so:
1. Which model is compatible with the bike?
2. Would I also need to buy a new crank set? (chain rings, right-hand crank arm)

Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Not really answering any of the questions, but Evans have some of these listed in stock right now which might be easier. They started to appear on the website this week.

Your crankset is a Shimano 10sp non-series HT II FC-R565, you are going to have to use the 5800 105 L.H crank arm if you want to stay with a black finish. Up to you whether you can live with the mismatch, 105 cranksets can be bought for £73.

Thanks for helping DJ58. The description for the 105 5800 crankset says it's for 11-speed whereas my bike is 10-speed. Is this a problem? I've seen the 5750 which is described as for 10-speed, but the power meter isn't available on a 5750.

FC-5750 is indeed 10 speed compact 50/34 105. There are a number of people on this forum using 11 speed 5800/6800 cranksets on their otherwise 10 speed transmission without problems.

Thanks again, good to hear. Do I stick with my 10-spd chain?

Fitting the 4iiii pm has more to do with clearance between the chain stay and the crank than anything else, I can't see crank length or number of gears making much difference. 4iiii recommend mounting the meter as far from the pedal as possible. Their support is very good, I'd give them a ring and speak to someone, that way you've got a definitive answer.
If you go for the postal option, rather than the ride ready, you get a fairly unambiguous diagram of how the pm should be placed.

Yes, continue to use a 10 speed chain.
