My local bike shop is selling a Norco Search with either sora 2016 or tiagra 2015 for +100$

Which one should i get? Is the new sora 2016 = to tiagra 2015? Should i pay for the upgrade

Thanks

Personally I would get the Sora out of those two because I dislike the old Tiagra so much.
The new Tiagra is a Phoenix out of the ashes though IMO.

Sora is never going to be equal to Tiagra because it has less sprockets, but if you have not had 10 or 11 before then you will not notice that.

My old road bike had the previous 10 speed tiagra and worked fine with no problems.

Sora for 2016 has been the same since 2013. Tiagra was the same from 2012-2015.

In your situation, I would get the Tiagra bike, if the price is equal.

No, the Tiagra 2015 would be 100$ extra (CAD$)

Depends if you think the extra sprocket and under bar tape gear cabling is worth the extra. Is it a full Tiagra groupset? I always thought the 4600 crankset was particularly hideous.

The new 4700 stuff is a great leap forward in both appearance and shift performance; I'd hold out for that if I were you.

Actually, i can't. It's for the Norco Search S3 bike that comes with Sora (2015) and they offered me to upgrade it to Tiagra (2015) for 100$.

Of course i could ask them to upgrade it to Tiagra 2016, but they will charge me at least 150$ if not more

4700 Tiagra came out in June 2015 and hasn't been changed since so 2015 and 2016 Tiagra are the same thing.

Ask them what the groupset code is, ie is it 4700 or 4600 Tiagra? If its 4700 then definitely pay the additional $100 for it as its very good. 4600 Tiagra came out in 2011/2012 and remained unchanged until 2015.

I'd still take 4600 Tiagra over Sora (regardless of what age the Sora is) all day long.
