Hello, I currently have Ultegra 12-30 cassette on my bike but want to change to 11-32.
Has anyone tried it and does it work without an issue? I have a short cage rear derailleur (105 10-speed RD-5701 SS).

    Hello Zefs,
Do a search for this topic, loads of threads on it. My own personal experience is yes, it works fine - I'm using a SRAM 11-32 cassette with a short cage 5700 on a CAADX frame (and plenty of 'B' screw). It may or may not work with your set up.

Just an observation - Shimano do an 11-32 10-speed cassette(HG81-10) that is half the price of the SRAM one

Used one on a build for my grandson a while back and it works fine with normal road shifters ad derailleurs

There is also the CS-HG500-10 11-32T cassette which is listed for Tiagra 4700 10 speed. Re. your RD-5701 SS you will need to wind the B-Tension screw in and I would avoid cross chaining the 50-32T combination though.

How good is the Tiagra cassette though? comparing to the Ultegra that I have now.
Also it it worth downgrading to Tiagra just to get the 32 gear cog?

just by an older 10sp mtb xt cassette (or hg81 slx if want cheaper) and a 9 sp deore m591 RD mech (we ve got a similar xt mech) found that the mtb HG95 chain runs better on the mtb cassette - my GF has used this set up for many years with no issues (105 5700 shifters)

the b screw adjustment might work with your current mech but i ll depend on the hanger length, for the sake of a few £'s i would nt bother.

Don't really wanna buy mtb cassette :P no offense
I guess the solution is getting the Tiagra?

I've variously run Tiagra 4600 and Ultegra 6700 cassettes on my bike, I honestly can't tell any difference whatsoever. I can't even remember which I have on now.

eh? why? its the best and only solution if you want low gears and higher quality, than tiagra - your road bike isnt going to suddenly spout 150mm travel forks and flat bars lol!
an XT cassette isnt much more and is loads lighter than Tiagra but its up to you if you ignore advice from some one who has gone down this route before you.... no offense

haha, I know it won't become a mountain bike just by changing the cassette but I went with Tiagra CS-HG500. It even seems smoother than the ultegra when changing gears, on a small hill climb I did to test it and didn't even use the 32, overall impressed from this small test. I think my old cassette had a 27 before the 30 cog and the new one has a 28 so maybe that's why I didn't use the last cog. Anyway, more testing soon, thanks for the replies.
