Landa gone - shame, there don't really seem to be any contenders firing at the moment do there? Somebody could end up winning a GT by default.

    nibali specialises in this.

Is he paying for his efforts in the TT?

It's a 3 week tour. He must be ill. No way he is paying for efforts in a TT two days ago with a rest day in between.

    Go Nico :D

What a shame for the race. I guess now we'll see Nibs take another GT while everyone is looking the other way. Also a shame the Sky seem to send a b team to the Giro, entirely focus simply an the TDF and then hope that Froome survives for the Vuelta. For all the alleged depth of resources, the overall GT plan seems pretty one dimensional. I guess they hope that Nico can pull a stage win out of the bag now?

Intxausti, Henao and Konig would have been helpers 2, 3 and 4 for Landa.

Everyone has sent their B team to the Giro apart from maybe Astana

Sky Italia getting value for money again.

Best Team Sky performance at the Giro is Uran's 2nd place...

PS. Sorry for Landa. Tummy problems are no fun. Had a similar issue after a BBQ in France last year. Leaves you flat.

Wiggins went as a reigning Tour champion, Uran came second, Porte went as third favourite, Konig came top ten, Landa was second favourite, Cavendish won three stages and lost the points Jersey by a single point.

Sky Italia was bought by BSkyB a couple of years ago (from 21st Century Fox who replaced them as sponsor)

I'm fairly certain that the BBQ was for non-riding staff only! Sky are just too professional for that...

Kind of naive to think that he pulled out because of "problems". Sky just decided to pull him out and save him for Tour,to gather the best and the freshest squad for Tour (last year we could see that Giro-Tour double isn't easy).
For now Landa showed good performances, with G and the rest of Sky's Tour team, they are certainly seeming unbeatable.

On the bright side, this stage thread is going to get a lot less apathy and a lot more traffic.

It's quite similar to what Saxo will do, you think that Majka won't be on Tour? That would leave Contador with Kiserlovski and Kreuziger for mountains, and none of them had any great result this year(Kreuziger 10th on Adriatico is the best). More on that, probably Sky will dominate all mountain stages like they do for years and that will leave Contador alone, probably Quintana also.
Win yellow on TT,keep it through mountains and win TDF, that's why Giro and Vuelta were much more fun than Tour, no sterilization by Sky.

Sky are blaming Landa's abandon on some dodgy breakfast cereal he ate.
