And it was a doozy.

Heading out on a quick 15km loop last night once my 18 month old was in bed - 45-50 mins as the sun slowly descends over the North Downs was a nice little blast.

25 mins in and I'm descending on a nasty, cragged up, single track road with a pile of gravel in the middle and potholes everywhere - trying to cover the brakes and avoid all major detritus.

Failed

*POP* *HISSSS* *WOBBLE* shite..

Only forgot to pack any spare tubes.

Let the missus know what the deal was, took my shoes off and started the long stroll home.

I won't be doing that again.

  • On the bright side.... you weren't 40 miles from home in a howling gale. Having said that, when similar happened to me last year, a mountain biker stopped and gave me an inner tube he'd bought as a spare but he'd picked up a road tube by mistake. His loss, my gain I guess. I hope karma let him get home ok that night

Let's nip this in the bud right now - it's not a fkin fairy.

Are you saying that they're more of a goblin or a gnome?

Stopped by a guy this morning at the side of the road with his very nice PlanetX bike with both wheels off waiting for a lift, asked if he was ok turns out he had a double visit from the fairy after plunging into and out of a rather nasty pothole and discovered both his spare tubes had duff valves oops. Would have offered him mine but rescue was on the way. Glad it wasn't me as no one to rescue me.

Both had duff valves? I wouldn't be surprised if he had purchased ones with a removable core. I found out I'd made that mistake about 30 miles from home in the middle of nowhere. I didn't even know they existed until I got home and googled the problem. Luckily I had some park tool sticky patches that I'd purchased about 10 months earlier 'just in case'.
