Ride to the sun - Carlisle to Cramond (issue getting bikes to Carlisle)

Myself and a mate are planning on doing ride to the sun, which leaves from Carlisle to Edinburgh (Cramond) on 18 June. Ride through the night to arrive as the sun rises. We are finding it a bit of an issue getting our bikes from Edinburgh to Carlisle. Virgin trains only have space for 3 bikes and all the trains that day are full for bikes (still have spaces on the trains for passengers).

If they are full for bikes is that a firm fast rule? Would they let you squeeze on with your bike?

    Hire a small van form a nationwide dealer. Bound to be someone with an office in both Edinburgh and Carlisle.

    Or cycle both directions, with a rest day in between if you must.

    Get a big cardboard box from the bike shop and pack the bikes up for the train ? There's no rules against boxes.

    They looking to see if there's enough interest to get a big removal van to take everyone's bike down.
