Looking to buy my first Hybrid Bike

Hi, new to the forum.
I'm currently the owner of a Carrera Kraken MTB that I've had for a number of years now.
I've been asked to do the London to Brighton bike ride in June and I'm currently looking to buy myself a new Hybrid for the event. Thought I would sign up to this forum as I was browsing the other day and was full of great advice from people that know what they're talking about (unlike me!).
Anyway, on to the Hybrid. I don't really want to spend anymore than £800-900 but I'd like to save myself as much money as possible. Here's some that I've been looking at and would be grateful for any help that could help me make up my mind.

boardman. Best value for money of them and most exciting ride by a long way.0

Boardman come highly recommended, but I've just bought a giant fast road slr which I can personally recommend0

Were it me I would go for the Hoy or the Boardman. Both are definitely at the flat bar road bike end of the hybrid scale, and both represent excellent value. You can't go wrong with either.
Maybe the Boardman just edges it, although I wish it still had the Apex gears rather than the Tiagra (I have the 2014 model which has this, and it's a lovely bike).Carrera Subway 2015

Is Apex parts better than Tiagra's? What can Apex do that Tiagras can't do?
Hi Ian! I made the same thread as you weeks ago! We share the same problem! Good luck on finding your new bike. In the end, we might end up buying the same bike or at least evenly matched. Bikes that are worthy rivals to each other.0 -
Thanks for the help.
Hi BikeGangster, seen in your thread that you've had a test ride on the Hoy Shizuoka That good eh?0 -
The Hoy machine is good. And I'm gonna ask for my deposit back tomorrow.
Because just yesterday I found Canyon out of random and they got better bikes. Here's what I think is perfect for both of us ha ha ha: https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/fitness/ro ... l-6-0.html The Shizuoka is redundant! I was too close to saying 'yes' to it!
The Road Lite AL 6.0. Eight hundred quid and its a little over nine kilograms! The shimano parts (one-zero-five's) are one class above the Tiagra's. Canyon is online-only shop so it doesn't have to go through b******t like put the bikes through the distributor and then a place of retail such as Evans, that's why its cheaper. The bike is gonna come all the way from Germany though. And probably won't be ready 'til June after I checked its availability.
I'm afraid you'll have to use your old bike for the London-Brighton run. And when the Road Lite arrives you can use it as your main bike and sell off your current MTB. And the next time you'll do a city-to-city ride, you can look forward to smashing it with your new, superior bike.0 -

It's personal opinion, but I find Apex to be smoother and more accurate than TIagra. That's not to say that Tiagra is rubbish - it isn't, quite the reverse in fact.
To be honest, there's so little between them it's a pretty minor quibble.Carrera Subway 2015
