Trying to Edit a route to send to my Garmin

Hi All,
First time post on here - excuse the rather mundane question/. I have tried to research this query but I am becoming increasingly frustrated by my inability to resolve it.
Let me try to explain...
On strava Local/London there is a map that shows a route 'London to Brighton return' that I wish to edit, and then send to my Garmin 1000 device.
The page in question gives me the option to save as a GPX file which I have done. I now wish to edit the GPX file - as in edit the route/course - IE, the start and finish areas. I wish to customize it to my local area to start and finish in.
The issue I am having is that I cannot for the life of me achieve this!
I have tried gpxedit, basecamp etc. - but I must be incredibly dim to not be able to find how to edit the route to my needs!
Can anyone advise please?

It is probably easiest to recreate the route with your modifications yourself in the Strava route builder or in RidewithGPS. Then you can save that version and put it on your Garmin.0
