Scott Scale 960 or Trek X-Caliber 9

I've now settled on these two and whilst Evans wait for the Trek to come into stock, they've allowed me to buy the Scott and return under their right bike guarantee if I end up wanting the Trek.
I've only ridden a few miles on the Scott so far and it feels tonnes better than my old 26" GT, but I don't really have much else to compare against, so I'm just looking at the spec at the moment.
I'm really stuck between two stools at the moment. Drivetrains and brakes are similar but the Trek has better forks and I'm wondering if that's enough of a reason to go for it over the Scott. I do like the lockout fork feature on the Scott though.
Which would you go for? I'm going to have to choose on spec as I really won't have much of an option to try the Trek before having to commit. I'm going to test the Scott tomorrow on a cross country ride with a few red routes mixed in so hopefully that will give me a better feel for the Scott at least.

Have you got the links to the exact models? Are a few variations depending on year.0

Sorry, both are 2016 models:

Trek: https://www.evanscycles.com/trek-x-cali ... e-EV2420190 -
There is very little in them. The fork is (slightly) better as you say - a little stiffer due to the larger stanchions but same damping.
I'd keep what you have, I can't see the Trek riding any better.0 -
I do like the Scott and this is my gut feeling. Not being that experienced, do you think I'd notice the benefit of the better fork on the Trek? Trails account for approximately 20% of my time on a bike.0

Unless when pushing hard when the slight stiffness increase is a benefit (will deflect less), I think you'd struggle to tell them apart. It is better made and should last longer, but again, is slight and they tend to last longer than other budget forks anyway.
I'll be honest, I'd expect to find higher level forks at this price such as something with a motion control damper ie a Recon RL or Reba.0
