I got a service, with a new chain replaced, the guy who done it said i would need to tighten the rear spocket?
What does he mean by this?

Never heard that expression before! "Sprockets" is usually a reference to the cassette rings but if he meant that the cassette lock ring needed tightening then he should have sorted that whilst the bike was on the rack.

Very odd, did he take the cassette off for some reason or did he notice that the lock ring was loose and not bother to tighten it?

Was it an actual bike shop? If so, ask him to explain what he meant and, if he did mean the lock ring, never go back to that shop again. He should have sorted it without asking and mentioned it when you collected the bike.
