Has anyone had experience of both of these? I know there has been similar threads but that seemed to be for the old canyon. How do they compare for the new 27.5 one? There's £500 off the canyon making it same price as the yt but with better spec.

    Hi,

I received a Torque whipzone about 2 weeks ago now, not sure how it compares to the yt ride wise but I'm really impressed with it so far, it feels great and the spec is excellent for the money.

Yeah that's what I thought. The spec is ridiculous for the money really but wondered what they ride like, especially compared to the yt.

I've not had a downhill bike before and was after some advise and these look the best value for money. I have also been looking second hand but most are 26" so I was a bit worried about resale value when I come to sell it.

It's my first DH bike too, I've ridden the 417 project and tidworth on it so far and it has been so much better than riding my trail bike on that sort of terrain, I have a friend with an older yt tues, he likes it but the spec of mine is far far better.

I guess the downfall of having a direct sales model is how hard it is to get a test ride. I wouldn't worry about 26" wheels holding you back when it comes to reselling, all second hand bikes are worth nowhere near their original value. I think there are quite a few DH bikes for sale second hand because DH is more niche than a trail riding.

I've ridden a couple Torques and didn't like them at all. Very linear rear suspension is prone to wallowing and blowing through travel plus there's a lot of flex.
The YT is better but I'd go for a Solid Strike over either of them. Great frame and decent spec.
The Devinci Wilson is also worth looking at, amazingly good frames and reasonable value. Proper fast race bike.
I wouldn't worry about having the best components, it's the frame which really defines how the bike will ride.
Don't worry about wheel size. Tyre choice is better for 26" and a lot cheaper.

Ah thanks. Devinci and Solid strike are more than I wanted to pay really. 2k tops really as I wont be using it much (Holiday bike and a few uplifts a year. Ive been offered a used glory 1 2016 for 2k, how do they compare?

Thats true the DH bikes seem to plummet in value compared to trail bikes and most are used nowhere near as much. How did you find 417? We went first week and it was terrible really although may have been teething problems.

Glory 1 is excellent. I'd go for that.
For what you want though, a Rose Soulfire could be better. A bit more versatile than a full DH bike and if you're not racing, more than up to the job.

We popped up to 417 last week in the afternoon, we only did 5 uplifts but we really enjoyed it, the blue is a bit too tame but the red was ace, there was only five of us on the uplift and it seemed to all be running smoothly.

OK thanks. Just looked at the Rose Soulbury but I've already got a capra al 160 and it looks too close to what I have. I think like you say the glory is worth a look.

Yes. Glory is a proper good bike. Just ploughs through everything. Bit of a freeride beast as well.
The Soulfire is quite close to a DH bike, more capable than a Capra.

Not ridden a Torque but I am happy with my Tues (2014 comp). Gets on with the job and leaves me as the weakest link. And has been pretty bombproof so far.

Now the Canyon sender is getting good reviews, maybe worth a look as it it seems to be better than the Torque based on reviews in the press.

I'd ignore any reviews by Dirt though. Anything that comes from Germany gets reviewed as the greatest bike ever. They seem to be a bit too biased.

Saw a very positive review on Pinkbike.

Thanks for all your help and I went with a used YT Tues cf pro in the end. Not ridden it yet but it looks ACE .

Clearly a man of good taste :)

Mine is the plain old alloy version but it does me just fine. Update please when you've ridden it !

Bit of a thread resurrection but the more I look at the Solid Strike, the more I fancy one. Unfortunately can't really justify 2 DH bikes !

You could always help by buying my Spicy off me to clear some space in the garage - see classifieds
