I'm using a air spring fork but the spring is hitting the inside of the stanction and it rattles like hell ! and its doing my swede in ! ( I like a quiet smooth ride ) , I put some heatshrink on the spring to try and deaden the sound but with the heatshrink wrap on I couldn't fit the spring back in the fork
any one got any ideas or solutions please ?
cheers cooky

forks are air and spring , 2015 marzocchi 55r0

Is it rattling at all travel points, or just fully extended?0

at all points ( over roots etc ) the spring hits the inside so its metal against metal , spring needs to be wrapped ideally but theres barely any room between spring and inside of stanction0

If there is a metal spring there is no air spring.-Cube Acid 29" 2013

On coil only forks the spring is lathered in (a thick heavy) grease to prevent rattling, may be worth checking them.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Some models of 55 had air and coil. It was a stupid system which they didn't make for long.
They probably need a good service. If yours do have a coil it should have a heavy coating of grease.
If there isn't a coil there should be nothing which can rattle unless it's farkedTransition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
heres my forks , bought them from new

they are air and coil
theres nothing changed from 1st oil change , coil has never been covered in grease
the squelch noise was from a older model 55r not my model
there was a clear plastic film over the coil when I did the 1st oil change , but this was so thin and brittle that it was falling apart and all in the oil etc so took it all off0 -
