Switching from Speedplay to SPD-SL: Extra Leg Fatigue

Recently, I switched from Speedplay to SPD-SL pedals. While I really like the locked in feeling of the shimanos, I've noticed that my legs fatigue much more quickly compared to speedplays. For example, after my group ride this past weekend, it felt like I had just finished a 100 mile ride, when in reality it was only 60 miles. My knees felt fine (better than when on speedplays) so it's not like the cleats are in the wrong position. I've also adjusted my saddle height to accommodate the change in stack heights, so I know that's not the problem. Maybe since I feel more locked in I'm grinding a bigger gear? Plus I like that the fact the the shimano pedals are much more simple than the speedplays.
Anyone know what could be causing this extra leg fatigue?

Hmm. Presumably there is some small mechanical difference with the slightly different stack height. But maybe hard to see that causing a big effect. Is it just chance? Sometimes you're the pidgeon, sometimes you're the statue.
Funny, I've been thinking about giving speedplays a go. Maybe they'll make me fatugue less. :?:0 -
I've swapped to speedplay from look on one of my bikes. I've atac on another. I don't notice any difference. Certainly not a 40% difference as you say.
Are your brakes rubbing? Soft tyres?0 -
Does your foot sit in the same position over the axle, fore-aft?0
