Should I risk buying a Canyon?

Its for my wife a birthday present for a landmark birthday. She likes the look of Canyons. CF SL frame only. Have they sorted out their delivery issues now? People who have them like them but there are so many bad stories. They told me the delivery date in June, stated online, was correct. Where else could I buy a carbon frame of that quality for £1000.00?

Well they have got some form in the lying to customers department so they would wouldn't they! I suspect there is about as much chance of them making the date as my wife buying me the personal unicorn that I have always wanted.

You're talking about the Ulitimate CF SL? Bear in mind that for £350 you can have the full bike - even if you strip it down and sell the parts.

They are good bikes... if it ever turns up.

After my experience this year (well, i placed the order in 2015) i will never ever buy or recommend canyon again though.

I've no idea if a 44 is any good to her.

They do good value bikes, in my experience they all have particularly low stack heights, that may suit it may not but pay close attention to the geometry charts.

The truth is that they're great bikes. If that's what she wants, get that for it's not worth settling for second best. But there's no mythical quality to a Canyon at that price. It's a great carbon frame. Whether it's better than another is always subjective.

She's not keen on them. Currently she rides a black aluminum Condor Italia size 49.

I had a flawless experience with Canyon when buying my CF SLX - I always recommend them to my friends. But I know their move to an SAP system was not the smoothest...

The CEO recently came out and said problems were being resolved also...

I personally wouldn't risk it. Obviously, there are plenty of people who got their bikes in a reasonable time and are happy customers. But there are also many potential customers, including me, whose Canyon experience was ruined by delays. In my case, I cancelled my order for an "in stock" CF SLX. I knew there had been problems with delays but took a chance when it appeared they had been resolved. It was so disheartening and I felt such a fool when my delivery date kept being put further and further into the future. This was two years ago but it's clear that the same old story applies now.

I reckon your wife would be better off trying out genuinely in stock bikes at a local bike shop. There are plenty of bikes around that are just as good as Canyon.

  • DO NOT BUY A CANYON BIKE!
I was also fooled by the price of the bikes and by some review I found on the internet.
Now after 2 years I've had lots of problems and discover that I'm not alone.
Buy on your local shop, you can find great deal, just have to look around a bit. I found out about that the hard way.
CANYON BIKES NEVER AGAIN. It's really ridiculous the responses I had from their service and the months you have to wait for a simple part, not just the bikes.
If you want a bike to hang on a wall then buy a canyon bike.
P.S. sorry for my English, it's not my native language.

  • I love my Canyon. It was delivered ahead of schedule in Sept 2015 just before their production line/sales system issues (I think). Never had a single problem with it.

Love the bikes but for some reason I didn't order one when I was there in the factory, I ended up with a Cervelo R5 and a Scott CR SL both great bikes both bought as frameset deals and built up by me, I like the frameset route and would suggest if you do go Canyon this might be a less problematic route.

Don't forget to mention it's intended purpose is for racing https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/service/sponsoring/

Then of course go and do at least one race ;-)

ive bought two canyons,an ultimate cf slx (when canyon prices were really good value about 4 years back) and a road lite for the missus about a month ago.

Their bikes are great, well designed and good quality in my experience. Their pricing is no longer the deal it was, they are competitive but you can get similar value buying locally now. And their supply chain still seems to be a problem, take any delivery date with a large pinch of salt. I also think their after sales sucks, the local UK office seems to be a conduit only and it can be painful getting things resolved.

If you desperately want their bikes then go for it, you probably won't be disappointed. But be aware that a quick conversation with an LBS can probably match/beat the price without the potential pitfalls of remote buying and after care.

the big prob Canyon have is they are no longer the cheap option at all.
also you still cannot spec a different stem ok perhaps with a normal set-up but with those v. expensive integrated aero bars, that is a just silly.

My dealings with Canyon getting an Aeroad, earlier this year, was that they are well meaning but bungling amateurs, i did get a great deal out of them and in the end all was well, but ffs it was like dealing with someone with mental health issues at times.

if i were to get a new bike, i d look seriously at epic cycles.

Are you going to resurrect every Canyon thread to post links to your website? This one is at least recent, the last one was over 4 years old.

I have two canyons but I wouldn't buy it again. My last experience was awful. One year waiting for stock but had to find out later by myself that it was having more stock problems. I had to cancel the order in the end.

Not to mention if you buy spare parts for your bike you will be lucky if they ever turned up. I bought something a year ago and it never turned up and I just now bothered to contact them.

I also ordered a spare hanger and that took half a year to arrive by that time I already forgot I ordered them.

Take my advice and go for a Rose. You will love it

Just bought a new canyon endurance cf9 from the outlet, £1859 with full dura ace.

Nearly bought one used yesterday for the same price, checked today and they had lowered that one by £130 odd and added the new one, phewwww.

Not a bad price really, yes the groupset isnt the new black dura ace, but its still brilliant.

The bike is light as well 6.70kg , you cant get anything with full dura ace for less than 2300 ish anywhere else.
