I saw on the London drinks someone mentioned Manchester drinks - so why not! It is officially the UK's trendiest place

Who is in the northern faction?? and where would you suggest ?

    Think that was me ;)

I'm in Didsbury but it's easy for me to get anywhere in the center. I don't really mind where we go provided it's not somewhere totally sh!t like Printworks or Deansgate Locks......
  • I'm in Sale. Happy to go anywhere, Plenty of decent pubs in dids

I lived in Didsbury for 2 years back in 82/83. A few good pubs .... wish I could join you.

Depending on the date, I am sure I could venture down the M56 for some idle cycling chat

I'd be up for this. I'm in Leigh, work in Rochdale, so Monchestuh is pretty much bang in the middle of my commute. Anyone comes up with suggestions for time/date, let me know

The Didsbury you knew in 82/3 is not the Didsbury of today. Better or worse? Thats a matter of opinion.

Didsbury's nice but I don't think we'll be buying here (can't afford it!!).

The Fletcher Moss is a decent "traditional" pub and close to the tram stop if we do go didsbury? But I feel bad making everyone go right where I happen to live...

The Fletch is a cracking wee boozer, unless it has changed since I live down that way. Rest of Disbury is a bet meh for drinking tbh, though now I think of it the Railway along West Didsbury is nice.

Depends what you like - plenty of more "modern" (= hipster) places on Burton Road now which is where I usually go. I figured the Fletcher would be a pretty safe bet, but Metropolitan (West Dids) is OK when it's not too busy (i.e., never), Woodstock's not awful. Station in East Didsbury is decent but has some interesting "characters". There's enough to have a pub crawl called the Didsbury Dozen anyway ;)

I live by the Didsbury and Ye Olde C0ck - Olde C0cke has a moderately good beer selection and is a passable pub.
  • Dunno if it's a bit far for some people but Alty has about 3 Belgian bars. Heavy going though obs.

I think town, dids or chorlton are probs the best bet, in terms of ease to get to and decent booze

Altrincham is fine for me. Or Chorlton - just up the tram line.

OK we'll let it roll a bit and maybe a meet in the first week of the Tour?

Altrincham Didsbury and Manchester centre all good for me

September meet in Knutsford/Tatton Park after the ToB would be on the cards too

Yeah, in Didsbury we only ever went to the Railway & Fletcher Moss. We went into the place next to the Railway after closing once but it was horrible. And there's a place up the top next to the Fletcher Moss park bit that wasn't great either.

Tbh, we stayed Didsbury/Withy borderlands and I worked up by the Old Moat Park so tended to stick to the Red Lion. Tended towards a more eclectic mix in there.

Christ no. If I was going to a Spoons it would be the Waterhouse at least. Or could go to that stabby Spoons on Picadilly Gardens if anyone fancies a good fight :)

But I'm on a boycott of Spoons now because the owner is a tit.

Northern Quarter is all about the bars, I quite like Ply as it has a good drinks selection and you can usually get a table.

Shambles Square and the Corn Exchange too?

ANYWAY, all those who would be interested in coming say AYE and we'll pencil a date in.

I have about four weeks of Tenerife & Cyprus leading up to Christmas though, so can we do it before 22nd November? :D

1st December good for Northern lot? I'm only back in the country for two days 30th + 1st, or we do before 20th November.

Starting in Trof in the Northern Quarter.
