I have a boardman 650 team which comes with a SRAM PG950 - 11-32t Chainsetand FSA Alpha Drive 44/32/22

However i was looking to get rid of the front deraier however i have no idea what i need .

Can i just get a new front chainring keeping my cranks or do i need a full kit

Currently i spend most of my time on the middle chainring

Tim

Yes, you'll need a narrow wide chain ring. You can use you existing bolts if you replace the outer ring with a bash guard otherwise you'll need a set of single chain ring bolts.

go for an oval ring mate, superstar have them for about £20. I have an oval on 1 bike and a normal on the other. the oval is so much easier on climbs.

Make sure you have a clutch on your rear mech though

No reason not to buy an oval ring really - they're no more expensive, but I've not found mine a revolution. Only time I notice is on the road, where it feels 'lumpy', almost like my chainring is ovalised...

If Oval rings were that much of an advantage then they wouldn't have died out back in the
    90s.

Biopace got it 90 degrees out, it seems.

I want to try this out but most of my rides have sections of road in them so are they still beneficial?

Also if you use a 34t n/w do you buy the same size oval chain ring?

My road bike still has Biopace. And downtube shifters. And is steel.

    That's old.
