Garmin Edge 510 not saving planned routes

I plotted a route & transferred to my Edge 510. On my return from the ride I saved it and suddenly the unit powered off. The ride was no where to be found so i concluded that as its 2+ years old its time to do a hard reset which i subsequently did. This morning I plotted another route & on my return the same damn thing happened again.
Any ideas?

    Have you done a recent firmware upgrade? Garmin used the 810/510 platform for the 520 and as a consequence buggered up the reliability of them. I find turning Bluetooth off before I start a ride using my 810, everything works fine. After finishing a ride, I'd turn Bluetooth back on to upload to Garmin Connect. As GC is now also unreliable, I don't use it anymore and I use Cyclemeter for live tracking and plug the Garmin in to the PC with a USB lead to upload. Doing that is infinitely better than drop outs, malfunctions etc during and after rides.

    Of course, it may be something different again with your 510.
