Fulcrum Racing 5 vs Racing Quattro

Any real differences to consider other than rim depth? Aesthetically I prefer the deeper Quattro's but is there anything else I should look out for between the 2?

I'd suggest getting the LG version of whichever one - it's a wider rim which is the modern trend.

80g difference in weight - I'd probably go for the deeper quattros.

Took me ages to decide. Got the Quattro and very glad I did.

Someday someone will do a test of aero +80g v less aero -80g. They'll find something, or not. I dunno.

They feel like the fastest wheels I've ever had. Feel like. And in the limited Spring conditions that I've tested them in they're up there in speed with my FFWD F4R (departed some time back).

I am promised some Swiss Side Hadron 45's shortly, to review. It will be interesting to see the difference.

I had the same dilemma, i use mine for weekend rides and daily communting in all weathers so went for the shallower front wheel profile and extra spoke count. I still might hide some money behind the sofa for some quattro's though....

Quattro's it is then if there are no real differences. They at least offer something interesting with the deeper rim.

I have a pair of quattros, which are noticably better than the factory standard Giant wheels, BUT I got freaked out by how they catch the wind. Cat and Fiddle/Peaks/Lancashire moors are generally exposed and I prefer a shallower rim in these windy northern wilds.

I posted elsewhere not all that long ago that I replaced my Quattros with 5LGs. The Quattros certainly looked and rode well but were awful in crosswinds. I've been really happy with the 5LGs and don't dread that riding past a gap in the hedgerow moment.

It's an interesting one. I have felt a crosswind a few times but nothing all that bad. To be honest I was almost once blown off when riding in a Ksyrium. I wondered the other day though, the profile of my Quattro with 25c tyres can't be far of the profile of my Pro Lite Revo with 37c tyres.

So, I took out my new digital calipers earlier. Expect lots of reviews with measurements now!

Quattro plus 25c Ones were the deepest.

Then Pro Lite Revo with 37c tyres. 0.1 inch less.

Then Pro Lite Revo with Schwalbe X-One, 0.15 inch less.

In truth, all very very similar. Even the Mrs Racing 7 plus 25c tyres were only 1/2 inch or so less.

So, I wonder how much of the Quattro catching the wind is down to the aero spokes rather than the depth per se? That would fit in with being blown round on Ksyrium as well.

It's difficult to explain but with the Quattros I felt the crosswind as a push/twist on the front wheel whereas with the 5LGs it feels more like an even push on the bike when I catch a crosswind gust. In all other respects, to be fair, I really liked the Quattros. There don't flex and the response is immediate. My son now has the Quattros and he's very happy with them. He should; he got them for nothing!

I've read elsewhere that the extra seal is the only difference (and worth having as long as the price difference isn't too much).

Thoroughly enjoyed that. Great write up. I almost pulled the trigger on a set of these before i got lucky with someone selling some Mavic Cosmics at work. Will probably pick up a set for n+1 in the near future
