Hi guys
I started cycling again last year with a Decathlon bike, but the leaning forward position keeps aggravating my heartburn.
Can anyone recommend a good sit up and beg position bike, im after a good quality, durable bike for once a week cycles down a canalside.
Cheers

If your otherwise happy with the bike you can probably just change the stem really cheaply...and get a more upright position.
Happy to help if that sounds intimidating and you can pedal as far as Westfield Av past the football stadium....
Can you share a link to your present bike?
If you just want to ride mainly the towpath that might be cheaper than changing the whole bike...
A Nice weekend or evening trip is to the White Heart at Pirbright....0 -
alot of the cheaper decathlon bikes have an adjustable stem I think, does yours have a hinge that allows you to change the angle and both raise the bars and bring them closer to you?0

Hi Steve, good idea, hadnt thought of that!!
Here it is: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/original-700 ... 53019.html0 -
yes its definitely adjustable, i already have it as high as possible0

I dont know much about quill stems - have you both angled it up as high as you can and also extended it out of the steerer as high as it will go? You may have dont the first but not the second? You should be able to loosen the stem in the steerer and pull more of it out - make sure you dont go past the minimum insertion mark though!

I didnt know there was a second way to adjust it, but its definitely pulled up as far vertically as the stem goes - in fact it seems a bit of a dodgy design as it could easily be set too high so its not secure.
Do you know where i can buy the right, longer stem? best0 -
Dutchie bikes. One came in the shop and i was surprised. For a £300 bike is was well put together. Even the wheels were built to a decent standard.

Also thd adventure double shot is worth a look.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
The bars on your bike are already well above the level of the saddle, so it's already what most would class as a sit-up and beg bike. If you are feeling that you are leaning too far forward, could it possibly be that the bike is too big for you?0

I wanted a similar step up and found the Marin Stinson step through. I managed to get a previous years model for only £250. I've since converted it to electric so it's even easier!0
