I'm looking at add a Shimano Ultegra Di2 R600 Climbing Shifter Switch to my set up

a few questions though:

!. Can you plug it into the spare port on the right shifter, or do you need a 5 port junction box to plug into (seeing as though all ports are used on the current 3 port)?

2. How does it attach to the handle bars?

3. Why is it so ugly?

The departed:

Boardman CX Team - sold
Cannondale Synapse - broken
Cube Streamer - stolen
Boardman Road Comp - stolen

Dunno the answers to 2 and 3 but 1 should be Yes, it will go into the spare port on the shifter. Basically, the components know what they are and will plug in anywhere.

It attaches by cable ties to make it even uglier on your bars. If you look through some of the Pro picture libraries they have done a hack on the sprinter switches and use one of them either side since they are smaller and less ugly.

    Cables ties?

    Forget that idea then

Do the sprinter switch come with wires long enough to have them on the tops for thumb use?

No, but you can splice the wires on the sprinter switches to extend them. They have to be plugged into the shifters, though, while the climber switch can be plugged in anywhere. I don't know whether you can run two sets of sprinter switches (in order to retain a set in the conventional location); there are enough ports in the shifter but I've never tried this.

You can also take the climber switch apart and run wires from the switch contacts to any momentary switch of your choice, while hiding the circuit board wherever you can.

Looks like a hack is the best solution then. Simple momentary switch and a 600mm e tube wire should do the job for < £20

Seen that they can be wired in parallel to have buttons on the drops and the tops too

I tried that and it works. not quite as good as the official sprint switch, but cheaper.

How do you mean "not quite as good" ?
