I'm about to buy my first nice road bike and have it narrowed down to a Giant TCR.

I have an option for a new 2014 Advanced 1 with Force 22 that is on sale for $2400 and marked down from $3450. The other option is a 2016 Advanced 1 with full ultegra that is $2350 brand new. There's also a 2016 TCR Pro model for $2900 that is pushing my budget.

Does anyone have any idea why the 2014 advanced 1 was worth so much more when it was new than the 2016? If it's supposed to be a higher quality would I be better off with the 2014, or has the frame changed enough in 2 years that I should get the 2016?

I'm not knowledgeable about geometry or how the bikes have changed so if anyone has some insight I'd appreciate it

I think it is simply that Giant have reduced their pricing over the past two years to be more competitive. I bought an Aluxx SL Defy 0 in 2013 and the same model, albeit with a revised frame design in 2016 is £200 cheaper.

The 2016 range TCR's have had a frame redesign, I think the geometry is the same.

Can you test ride the 2014 and 2016 bikes?

I have the 2016 advanced pro which replaced a 2011 TCR advanced.
The 2016 has the same carbon as the 2014 but it is re designed and Giant can manufacture them cheaper now. There is not a lot of difference between the new 2016 TCR's as they both have the same carbon T700 frame but the cheaper version has an alloy steerer compared to the Pro versions carbon steerer. The Pro has Lighter bars and stem with a branded seat and also has decent carbon wheels. I would get the 2016 model and if you can stretch the budget the pro is worth the difference in cost over the Advanced .
