I've just brought out my summer bike and discovered one of my Speedplay Light Action Pedals has seized. Only had them on for one season and way less mileage than advised before a re grease. I imagine a wet ride saw some water ingress. Are they now junk or can they be rescued?

if all the grease was flushed out then it may be the needle bearing has died

you can get rebuild kits from speedplay, some bits are generic and can be had cheaper

if you search for 'speedplay rebuild' with google you'll find plenty of info

i suggest strip them down and have a look, the screw that secures them is held with loctite, you may be able to undo it cold but be careful to use a good hex key and don't round off the screw, if you've got a soldering iron, you can try pressing the tip into the hex recess and get it *hot* to loosen the loctite

btw a simple test is to manually flick the pedal every so often, if it spins freely you know there's no grease in there!
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
