Check out the comments.

I never knew my Lycra was so offensive.

I'll remember that next time someone turns up in a pair of leggings.

As for inappropriate bulges. What can I say, God delivered it, I signed for it 8)

Siobhan Tolhurst, who once worked for Saunders’s at another cafe, explained the reasons for his lack of enthusiasm for Lycra.

“I fully support Mike’s ban on Lycra. Because when the cyclists come in they do stink, they are sweaty and it is unhygienic sitting on the furniture and everyone, including little children, partaking in their post exercise demeanor.
Yer - totally agree - cyclists are sweaty and it's unhygienic to sit on anyone - especially little children ... poor children - won't somebody think of the children !

Yeah I liked that comment - I support a ban on lycra... because I don't like cyclists.

So a slim chap in lycra shorts is not on, but a 25 stone woman in yoga pants is fine? Pleeeeeease.

Probably the same group of people who think having bicycles parked outside a building looks 'untidy' and yet have parking for 200 cars.

It's probably more to do with the size of the package being on show ....

There _can_ be some real sights.

Quite frankly though - if a cafe/hotel bans lycra clad cyclists then fine - just go elsewhere - or is the coffee/cake that good?
Elsewhere could be just next door ... preferably outside where the patrons of the banning cafe can see them ;)

The garden centre and farm cafes near us make a fortune from cyclists.

Agreed completely. The Owner of my favourite cafe stated that her business was predominantly cyclists on a ride, cyclists in their car who fancied a tea/cake anyway, and friends of said cyclists checking out what the fuss was about.

There was a thread on mumsnet I stumbled on via google which was titled "men with big dicks should not wear lycra" - it was highly amusing.

I don't see the issue with this. Even over here in "Cycling Paradise The Netherlands" (TM) there are cafes or bars that are more or less welcoming to cyclists. Even Pro-Racers look stupid in lycra...

    Sometimes it's not appropriate.

Mumsnet is like the daily mail on a forum but more extreme :)
  • I get the whole aero thing if you're sub 10% body-fat, riding something as light as a feather, and going faster uphill than I do downhill, but for most of us it's not really necessary, and to be honest there are some sights better left unseen...

Its not about aero, its about comfort, and suitability to the job at hand.

If you go on mumsnet you'll often find lewd comments from posters. You should read what they say about Mr Bloom!

BTW they're the ones who made Asda cover up lads mags because they're a bit too adult for supermarkets. At least most people don't make mumsnet without specialist needs (kids, kids related stuff or possibly camping comments). This makes me wonder what was googled to get a discussion on big dicks in Lycra on mumsnet. Seriously that's a specialist interest indeed.

Ha, I honestly can't remember why it came up, if it was smut I was after, I wouldn't need to use google, I'd head to my favourites ;)

when i started riding i swore i'd never wear lycra but after my first two longish hilly rides i had to either don the lycra or except that riding was not for me, i did also have a brief period in the early days of wearing baggies over lycra but that got to hot as i started to ride faster and harder.

like having the right tools for diy having the right kit on the bike makes it all a lot easier and more enjoyable in all conditions

I wear lightweight (and cheap) Azore baggies over Lycra, can honestly say it's no hotter than without, and I don't want to inflict a view of my posterior in Lycra to anyone!

Meh, anyone who gives a sh!t doesn't deserve to be catered to.

If anyone's upset by the 'shape' of anyone they have issues, not the person in the Lycra. It's just people. Everyone is one. And even the 'bulge' - Christ, half the world has a penis, get over it.

Presumably the owner in question has been working on his paunch so he doesn't need to see his.

Do those that think that bike attire for breakfast is OK also think it is also OK to go shopping in their dressing gowns?! IMO, good for the hotel in trying to maintain what is actually a not especially high minimum standard.

Rolf - I think you've missed the point. The cyclists are stopping off there. It's not like they're dressing specifically for breakfast in lycra. They're out cycling and stopping.

Or do you take a tuxedo out with you when you go cycling ?

Well that's odd. The article I read referred to it as a hotel breakfast issue which is fair enough; I just assume this was the same article as I was expecting it to be posted on here! But any café that will throw away a potential lot of custom on the basis of the opinions of what is probably a small minority deserves the fate it will probably get!

Odd to fixate on cyclists - lycra running shorts are rather more revealing without the benefit of the padding but maybe the hotel owner doesn't object to girls in tight lycra.

In fairness, that's how i read it first too Rolf, other articles suggested it was visting cyclists too. Th eother thing we don't know is how "swanky" it is inside which also gives an idea of how realistic it is to were lycra (and be sweaty and stinky) in there too.
