Hi all,

Does anyone have the basic Garmin Virb (as here http://virb.garmin.com/en-GB/products/virb) non wifi version & the Garmin Edge 520 (as here https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/sports- ... 66370.html)?

Everywhere I’ve looked does seem to suggest that they will work together as they have the ANT+ connectivity, but I wondered if anyone has done it in practice?

Bought the Garmin 520 bundle for £235 from here: http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/garmin-e ... 90173.html but not been delivered as yet.

If they don’t work together then going to bite the bullet and buy a Virb Elite instead I think.

Cheers,

Russ

It'll work. Why do you think it wouldn't? If you decide to buy an Elite, you can have my barely used used one cheaper than a new one. :)
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

Actually you may know the answer to another question rolling around in my head!

Would the Virb use the 520’s GPS to work out speed, where you were etc, or is that something I’ll only get with an Elite?

I know the Elite does it, but not sure about the standard version. You can get software that will overlay it for you I believe.

My 810 recognises my Virb basic. You can set up the Edge two ways to work with the camera. You can have a training page which will have a slider button to start/stop recording or you can have the Edge set up so that your camera starts recording when you press start on the Edge. I've got mine set up as the latter and only miss the photo option on the Edge.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Not automatically I believe (I have to basic Virbs and one Elite), instead you have to sync the recorded GPS file with the video footage on the PC afterwards.

I synced up my Virb basic and Edge 800 together and all I was offered was an extra training page to start/stop recordings. I would love to know if there's a way to add the data from the edge to the recording, but I have a feeling you can't. I know a good selling point of the elite is that the GPS/WiFi will add those stats to the video for you.

    Use the Virb Edit software.
Import the video, add G-Metrix (you'll need your Edge plugged into select the ride that matches the footage)
Make sure the data is synced with the video.
Then choose the overlays to display the data on screen
    Save

    Edit:
    G-Metrix starts @ 7:30,
    Overlays @ 4:35
